Teacher

The fontography project is fun for first graders just getting comfortable with letter recognition, and again in middle school when older students begin to seek personal style through their handwriting. A short presentation introduces typography and terminology. I like to draw silly samples on the board as I talk. Then I hand out a ruled guide page and let the kids go to town.

This lesson can be extended to include history of typography and printing, as well as providing an alternative measuring system for math extensions in the middle grades.
